Nikeka Chanette Poe, age 28, of Uniondale, was found around 8 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 15, lying in the street on Laclede Avenue in Uniondale with multiple gunshots wounds, said the Nassau County Police.
As a result of her injuries, Poe was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Following an investigation, a short time later, police found Thomas R. Priester, age 31, of West Babylon, at Greenfield Cemetery located at 650 Nassau Road, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, said the Nassau County Police.
A GoFundMe effort said Poe leaves behind two children and that Priester was the father of the children.
"This heartbreaking situation has left her children without parents," said the GoFundMe organizer Dorean Bryant. "We want to raise this money to pay for her funeral expenses and therapy for her two small children."
To date, more than $20,000 has been raised.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
